After a hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, international travel opportunities for Bellefonte Area High School students have made a triumphant return, offering nearly 70 participants unforgettable experiences across Europe and Central America this summer. The two extensive tours, one spanning 14 days through Italy, France, and Spain in June, and another 8-day expedition to Costa Rica and Panama in July, provided students with unique cultural immersion, educational enrichment, and personal growth.

We’re proud to recognize Isaac Gall, a standout student from Bellefonte Area High School, who earned second place in Centre County in the Brighter Financial Futures Investing Challenge, under the guidance of educator Barbara Stoicheff! Thanks to the support of Lion Country KIA and Sunbury Motor Company, students across Centre County are gaining real-world financial experience that prepares them for a strong future. Through challenges like this, students are developing the financial confidence and critical thinking skills needed to become financially self-sufficient adults. We’re excited to see how these experiences shape their futures.

The BAHS CHS Biology students traveled to Pitt University at the beginning of June. The students worked through a gel electrophoresis that analyzed if certain foods had GMO genetic markers. They did this under the guidance of Dr. Gonda.

Marion-Walker Elementary completed their 12th year raising money for Mini-THON. This year they raised $10,289! Students and staff earn this money through school fundraising campaigns such as selling Candy Grams, Tasty Treat Ice Cream sales at lunch every Tuesday, selling Mini Thon Swag and having a classroom canning event. AT the end of the school year, they celebrate with great day of fun activities for all the students in the morning and then, of course dancing all afternoon.

At the end of May, Benner Elementary was visited by PennDOT and members of a GA firm to provide safety assembly for second and third graders. PennDOT and PDE piloted a bicycle and pedestrian safety initiative in one rural, urban, and suburban school across the state. PennDOT partnered with a firm in Georgia who coordinated a visit to Benner with Mrs. Harris. Members of the firm in Georgia traveled to Pennsylvania to provide the safety assembly with members from PennDOT to second grade students at Benner Elementary. Students learned about bike sizing, the appropriate way to wear a helmet (direction, buckle, and covering the front and back of the head), and bike safety (making sure tires have air, checking the breaks and chains) as well as pedestrian safety (looking left, right, and left again, limiting distractions).
