The Council for Art Education administers Youth Art Month. Youth Art Month encourages support for quality school art programs and promotes art material safety. The program provides a medium for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences unlike any other curriculum subjects, including problem-solving, creativity, observation, and communication. There are over 300 students' artworks exhibited in this virtual exhibition and we feel so good about the work chosen to represent Bellefonte! First Grade at Benner Elementary celebrated the 101st Day of first Grade. Students were able to dress like they were 101 years old and participate in some fun activities!

On February 22nd students, teachers, parents, staff, and volunteers gathered at the high school for a tournament to celebrate our Unified Bocce team. The competition was fierce and all had fun!

Superintendent Update: February 26, 2024 The Bellefonte Area School Board is pleased to announce that the interview phase of the search is underway! The Board received and screened 20 applications and selected five for the first round of interviews. At the conclusion of the first round, the Board will select the candidates who best meet the needs of the District and invite them to the next phase of the interview process. We anticipate having all final interviews completed by the end of March and our goal is to have a candidate for approval as our next Superintendent in April. We thank everyone who participated in our stakeholder survey. Your input helped to form the Bellefonte Area School District and Superintendent Profile that was used to advertise and recruit for the position. Our collective partnership makes this District and Community an outstanding place to work, live, and learn. Next Tuesday, February 27th - the BAHS Variety Show will take place in the High School theatre at 7:00PM! Tickets are $5.00 at the door. All proceeds benefit the high school's Raider Revolution program. There will be both student and staff acts of all sorts. We hope to see you there!

Congratulations to Alexander Crist for being chosen as the February BAHS Elks Teen of the Month! Alexander Crist embodies hard work, perseverance, and leadership skills both in the classroom and in the community. In everything that Alex attempts, he leads by example through hard work and determination. Alex’s character is his most redeeming and impressive quality. He is very personable and trustworthy. It is quite evident that Alex’s pursuit of excellence is a motivating factor in his interactions with his teachers, coaches, and fellow students. Alex has a natural and inquisitive intellect with a tremendous work ethic that allows him to work towards the goals that he sets for himself. His personality revolves around integrity, ambition, leadership, and working well with others.

February 15th is the National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. We are so very grateful for Officers Brett Hanlon, Mike Lyons, Shawn Luse for helping to keep our students, staff, and campuses safe!

Last week, Mrs. DeFonzo’s Fifth Grade Language Arts students at Marion-Walker Elementary School got to enjoy a whole class period of reading as a mid-year reward for great behavior and hard work! Students could bring in cozy blankets, stuffed animals, flashlights, snacks, and of course lots of books to enjoy while relaxing to the crackling sounds of the “fireplace!”

The BAMS Life Skills class held their Annual Winter Dance on February 2nd. Students from Penns Valley and Bald Eagle also got to join in on the fun!

Ms. Gasper’s Reading classes spent Groundhog’s Day learning about the history, replaying Punxsutawney Phil’s prognostication of an “Early Spring!” and checking out all the groundhog swag she collected over the years. This may just be a “bucket list” item for a few of her reading students moving forward.

In Ms. Brown’s fourth grade ELA class at Bellefonte Elementary, students completed a digital “Book in a Box” project after reading "The One and Only Ivan.” Students picked objects that reminded them of the book and had to use reasoning and evidence why they thought that. Students came up with some really creative ideas to represent the book!

This week is National School Counselors Week! Thank you to our amazing school counselors that do so much for our students - every single day! We appreciate you!

In Miss Matush’s 8th grade science classroom, they kicked off the new year by creating one word resolutions. This activity allowed students to think about a word that they want to stand by in the year of 2024 while setting a goal meaningful to them. A great way to start the new year!
