Bellefonte Area High School junior Adam Brookens took second place in the nation at the National Geography Bee championship finals held this past weekend in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Brookens’ remarkable achievement places him at the top of a competitive field. The tournament began with over 6,000 applicants nationwide, with only an elite group of students advancing through rigorous regional rounds to qualify for the national stage.
Throughout the weekend competition, Brookens demonstrated an exceptional mastery of physical, political, and cultural geography. He advanced to the championship round, where he ultimately secured the second-place title.
BAHS social studies teacher Mrs. Ally Durney added, “We are so proud of Adam and we can’t wait for next year’s Geography Bee.”
