School librarian, Mrs. Sarge worked with the Jana Marie Foundation to promote a meditation exercise activity for the students at the high school. The Foundation led with breathing exercises and then Mrs. Sarge followed with her singing bowls. This was one of many activities at the high school for Mental Health Awareness Month.

The High School Friends of Rachel Club held a table event during spirit week in May. The theme for the day was Kindness Ties Us Together and they were offering tie bracelets to bead during the lunch periods. They also asked students to share their acts of kindness on the green piece of paper, which is also the color for Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mrs. Cynthia Lorenzo and Baily visited Mrs Morris’s AP Psychology classes to discuss how operant conditioning is used to train therapy dogs.

Mrs. Cipro’s upper level video classes completed an advertising project that involved working with downtown Bellefonte businesses. As a whole, the classes worked with 12 different businesses. Each group was assigned to one of these businesses and communicated multiple times prior to filming day to form a plan to create two versions of commercials, an Instagram/FB reel, a printed advertisement, and a radio advertisement. These products will then be shared with the businesses to use at their leisure on any of their websites and social media pages. The students did a great job with their professionalism on all communication with the pre-production and production days. Very proud of these young men and women!

Mrs. Gasper's Reading classes closed out their Olympics lesson by bringing in guest speaker, Greg Fredericks, a member of the 1980 Olympic team that boycotted the Moscow Games.
He earned his way there by finishing second in the 1980 U.S. Olympic trials. The PSU graduate had career bests of 13:34 for a 5K race and 28:03 for a 10K race.
In the 80's and 90's he coached Centre County Special Olympics and more recently, started youth cross country races in our area with the Nittany track and field/cross country programs - located out of State College.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! It's a great day to give a positive note to your child's teacher - they truly will appreciate it! Thank you teachers for educating, guiding, and caring for our students, every day!

Today is National School Nurse Day! Our school nurses work tirelessly every day to help take care of our children. We are grateful for you!

In Mrs. Eddinger’s College Prep Biology classes swabbed their phones for bacteria and grew the bacteria swabs in an incubator for a week. Students found that those that cleaned their phones once a week had much less bacteria than those that didn’t. They also found that students who reported being on their phones for 10 or more hours a day also had a lot more bacteria. They viewed the bacteria through microscopes, made a large data analysis, and then created a presentation of their findings.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! This year’s theme nationwide is “Take the Moment.” At BAMS, students and staff are finding moments throughout the month to check in with their own mental health and spread kindness and positivity to others.
This month, we also want to Take the Moment to highlight the resources below. We encourage everyone in the community to make a note of them and share the information with family, friends, and neighbors. Staying aware and informed is one of the best ways we can support each other - in school, out of school, and everywhere!
