The Bellefonte Indoor Track and Field team completed their season on Wednesday, February 18th at Penn State.  As the program continues to grow and thrive, so do the overall team  performances. Over the last several months, the BAHS student-athletes competed in a number of meets and excelled by breaking several indoor school records.  There were a total of twelve indoor records broken during the season.  Six for the girls and six for the boys.

For the boys’ team, sophomore Jonathan Gasper, set three individual indoor school records and was a part of one relay indoor school record.  Jonathan set indoor records in the 3000m, 3200m, and Two Mile Races.  Jonathan’s best race of the season was his last, in which he shattered the previous school record in the 3000m race by over sixteen seconds.  The previous record was set by Chase Ebeling in 2023.  Jonathan narrowly missed the sub nine-minute mark with a new personal record of 9:00.19.  In the 3200m and Two-Mile races, Jonathan set new school records with times of 9:54.23 and 9:50.97, respectively.

At Lehigh University, on January 31st, Jonathan joined teammates, junior Maverick Muchmore, junior Calvin Lovrak, and freshman Carson Fritchman in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR: 1200m-400m-800m-1600m) to set a new indoor school record with a time of 11:27.57.  Entering the event, the boys were ranked 11th.  They finished the race, not only with a school record but also with a 5th place finish in the event and, thus, exceeding their seed!

Finally, the boys’ 4x400m relay team set a new indoor record in January only for them to re-set it at their last indoor meet in February.  The first time the 4x400m relay record was broke, the team consisted of Calvin Lovrak, junior Landyn Langille, Carson Fritchman, and freshman Jack Tyson.  On February 18th, when the record was re-set, the team consisted of freshman Elliott Donmoyer, Landyn Langille, Calvin Lovrak, and Jack Tyson.  The new indoor school record time is 3:40.62.

For the girls’ team, it was a lot of the same success we saw with the boys’.  Senior Natalie Jolley broke the 3000m indoor school record at the first meet of the season and then re-broke her own record the second time she raced the 3000m.  The new indoor school record time that Natalie set currently stands at 11:07.51.

When it came to field events, junior Althea Helms set the standard for Long Jump at Bucknell University on January 25th.  Althea broke the previous record, set by Sara Proctor in 2024, by over seven inches.  The new indoor Long Jump record is 16’ 11”.  Althea now owns the indoor 60m, 200m, 400m, long jump and triple jump records and is a member of the following indoor school record relays: 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m, and DMR.  With the exception of the 4x200m, all relay records were set during the 2025-26 indoor track and field season.

Helms joined teammates senior Madyson Miller (who is also a member of the four indoor school record relay teams), Natalie Jolley, and senior Addison Fry in the DMR and produced a time of 13:52.46 at Bucknell on January 25th

The girls' 4x800m relay team first broke the indoor school record in December and then re-broke the record in January.  The team of Helms, Miller, Jolley, and Fry set the record in December.  The current record stands with a time of 10:00.10 and is held by teammates Jolley, senior Anna Tyson, Miller, and Helms.  The relay will end the indoor season with the highest ranking in school history by being ranked in the Top 40 in the state.

The ability to interchange athletes in relays is what helps build the program and continue the success that has been set before them. The foundation is laid for what looks to be a successful outdoor track and field season at Bellefonte.
