The Bellefonte Area Middle School was built in 1962. It is situated in the Borough of Bellefonte. It is surrounded by a large outdoor area for intramural and interscholastic activities as well as community sponsored sporting activities. The enrollment at the beginning of the 2000-2001 school year was 710 students in grades 6, 7, and 8.
An extensive fifteen-month construction project was completed the summer of 1999. The project added ten new classrooms replaced the roof, windows, and doors and installed an energy efficient geothermal heating and air conditioning system. The building is now protected by a sophisticated fire detection and suppression system. It has been upgraded with a state-of-the-art wiring network to meet the buildings technological needs for many years to come.
The Middle School offers:
Two academic teams at each grade level offering: Science, Social Studies, Language Arts
and Mathematics
Math electives including Pre-Algebra and Algebra in 7th grade and Algebra II in 8th grade
Required courses that include Fine and Practical Arts in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades including:
Family Consumer Science, Industrial Technology, Music, and Art Required 6th grade courses
in Library Science and Technology Tools (Keyboarding, Word Processing, and Computer
Applications)
A full range of Special Education services
Fine Arts electives at each grade level in Band, Orchestra, and Chorus
More than 20 clubs (examples: Newspaper, Yearbooks, Drama, Ski, Self-Defense,
Sign Language, Golf, and Poetry)

The parent group P.I.N. (Parent Information Network) recently organized at Bellefonte Area
Middle School to support the students, teachers and administrators throughout the school
year. P.I.N. offers a full range of volunteer activities for parents to get involved with the
school.
