The First Vermont Cavalry UniformsThe cavalry uniforms consisted of dark blue jackets trimmed with a yellow braid. On their jackets there were brass scales on each shoulder. They also wore light blue trousers with a brown top coat and top boots. On their heads the men did not wear helmets, instead, they wore black felt hats (one side turned up). In the Beginning, the First Vermont Cavalry was not able to aquire any arms because they were a voulnteer regiment so they turned to clubs as a source of weapon. Clubs however proved to be too hard on the cavalry men's shoulders because of the weight. Finally, before battle, the men were given sabres to fight with in battle.* Below are the Outfits worn by the first Vermont Cavalry during battles.
