Coporal Trustrim would be cited for the Medal of Honor after capturing the battle flag of the 10th Virginia Infantry at Sailor's Creek on April 6, 1865. The citation was issued on May 10, 1865."The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Trustrim Connell, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 April 1865, while serving with Company I, 138th Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Deatonsville (Sailor's Creek), Virginia, for capture of flag."
