This was the final battle of the war and the surrender of Lee. Lee was detirmined to make one final stand so he lined his troops for the last stand. Lee's goal was to hold off the union and to reach his supplies at Lynchburg. At dawn Lee moved toward Sheridan's forces and even managed to push them back a little bit. The final moment for Lee came when the union infantry arrived and left Lee surrounded on three sides. Left with no other option Lee surrendered to Grant on April 9, ending the Army of Northern Virginia and the main force of the confederacy.
