Victor: ConfederatesThe Union dropped troops on the southeast part of James Island and they marched north toward Charleston in an attempt to take the city. The Confederates prepared for them and despite having fewer soldiers, beat back the Union attack. This was the only attack made on the South Carolina capital througout the entire war.
