Bellefonte Area School District uses the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Reading Counts program in grades K-5. Students will read more and become better readers using the program. In addition to reading great books, they can monitor their own progress in the program and gain satisfaction when they meet attainable goals.
With the program, students can also choose to read books of their own interest at their reading level. Students can then take quizzes to test their knowledge of the book and receive points for their success. Scholastic has a library of more than 40,000 quizzes available for students. Students and parents can search the Scholastic website to determine if their favorite book has a quiz associated with it and how many points they would receive if they successfully pass the quiz.
