• B the Change continues with initiatives as school year winds down

ribbonsAs the school year soon comes to an end, students part of B the Change are still working on their mission to support student passions about various topics. During the week of May 16, many students could be seen wearing various ribbons handed out by members of the club to show support for Armed Forces Day and transgender rights. The ribbons were available to any student who wanted one, but wasn’t required to have.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in May to honor those currently serving in uniformed service, which include the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy and Space Force. Transgender Day of Visibility is held May 31, but club members said they’re recognizing the rights of that community for more than just one day.

Club President Cecilia Mazzocco said that the club also raised money through canning efforts to support the Bellefonte Education Foundation, which provides grants for teachers and scholarships for students. This, Mazzocco added, was the club’s way of honoring educators for Teacher Appreciation Week held May 2-6.
