• Softball team heads into season with new team, but same goals

The spring athletic season started at the beginning of March and heading into the new season, the Bellefonte Area High School softball team comes into it with motivation from a successful season last school year, but focuses its emphasis on starting fresh nonetheless.

“We have new players, with new skill sets and new personalities that are completely different people,” coach Travis Foster said. “We won't compare ourselves to anyone; we don't try to replace anyone from previous teams. What we'll do is continue to set incredibly high standards, and work very hard to keep the rich history and tradition of Bellefonte softball.”

2021 teamLast season, the team claimed the District 6 Class 5A title in May after a win against Central Mountain. The team also boasted a group of Mountain League All-Stars with Lily Gardner, Hanna Lauck, Lexi Rogers and Maddie Tice. In August, it was also announced that the team was named to the 2021 NFCA/Easton All-American Scholar list.

“The 2021 season was great,” Foster said. “Something I say a lot, and the girls make fun of me for it, is, ‘It doesn't matter, get better.’ ... We have to focus on ourselves and build our own momentum and discipline this year.”

This year’s goals are ones the team is already familiar with – “Be better than we were the day before,” Foster said, and adding that is the same goal as past years.

“While we have what we call destination goals – to advance to the postseason and be as successful as possible – we put more of our focus on the standards that are within our control,” he said. “We don't talk much about winning – almost never. ... What is most important are the plans and processes that we put in place that will give us the best chance to have success.”
