District claims Cool School Challenge for fifth time since its inception
Since the Cool School Challenge was created in 2015 by the YMCA of Centre County, Bellefonte Area School District has claimed the title five times – the latest this December after a group of employees from Marion-Walker Elementary School teamed up to support anti-hunger programs with the Y’s annual benefit campaign through its Polar Bear Plunge.
Principal Karen Krisch said more than $2,000 was raised. This was Krisch’s seventh year participating, she said. Other faculty included school counselor Ashley Hamilton, elementary tech teacher Jena Jodon, fifth-grade teacher Chris Cipro and third-grade teacher Jen Carroll.
The plunge was held Dec. 4 at two Centre County locations, which the team representing BASD took a swim in cold, murky waters at Black Moshannon State Park.
