Dr. Vancas discusses comprehensive plan with board
At the Bellefonte Area school board meeting Oct. 19, district Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kris Vancas discussed the comprehensive plan for the district and its schools. A comprehensive plan is an analysis of school and district data that is used to formulate goals and action steps to accomplish during the three-year duration of the plan.
More specifically, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, "the comprehensive planning process contains six sections. CP is a continuous process used to ensure that all students are achieving at high levels. All LEAs can create better environments so that more students are successful. Continuous planning of local educational agencies is essential to providing increased student performance and quality results. Innovative, exemplary and research-based programs, coupled with staff development, focused and aligned resources, and public participation in planning, are critical factors in districts that demonstrate continuous growth."
The six sections are:
- Action Planning
- Assurances
- Core Foundations
- Needs Assessment
- Plan Submission
- Profile
Vancas said the district's comprehensive plan outlines "four overarching goals" to accomplish at the district in the next three years. It also includes a new teacher induction plan, ACT 48 professional development plan and specific plans for each of Bellefonte Area's six schools. The district is also required by PDE to undergo and complete the comprehensive planning process every three years, which the next must be submitted to the state by Nov. 30.
