Burnaford named superintendent

At a school board meeting in March, the Bellefonte Area School District Board of Directors appointed Interim Superintendent Tammie Burnaford to the position of superintendent. Her term will run through June of 2024.Burnaford has served as interim superintendent since July 1, 2020, filling a vacancy after former Superintendent Michelle Saylor retired.
As a lifelong resident of Centre County, Burnaford dedicated her life to children. Of her 33 years in education, 18 years have been with BASD. To add to her local flair, Burnaford conferred all of her degrees from Penn State.
In the past year -- and during the COVID-19 pandemic -- Burnaford has worked to lead staff in providing face-to-face instruction to students. Additionally, her top priority has always been the safety of students and staff, and leadership to guide them through the school year.
