Volleyball: Division 6 champions
The volleyball team from Bellefonte Area High School became Division 6 champions at the title game Nov. 11 against Hollidaysburg. It was held in Tyrone. The Red Raiders beat the Golden Tigers, 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-16).
According to Coach Monica Smith, the team was 7-10 leading to Wednesday night's set. That win count was more than double the team's wins from last season. Freshman Carlee Pepperman also recorded a triple-double against Huntingdon this year -- a feat that Smith said is "super rare." In that game, Pepperman's triple-double included 10 aces, 13 kills and 12 digs. A "triple-double" is when a player achieves double-digit totals in three of five statistical categories during the course of a single game.
They play again noon Saturday in the PIAA quarterfinals at Franklin Regional in Murrysville.
The team finished fifth in the Mountain League, and boasted three first-team All-District All-Stars with Pepperman, Alexia Mishock and Makenna Port.
