• Free meals offered to all district students from Oct. 1 through the end of 2020

    free food At its regular meeting on Sept. 22, the Bellefonte Area school board unanimously approved the district’s participation in a free meal program through the United States Department of Agriculture, which will last from Oct. 1 through December 2020 and allow students in the district to receive free breakfast and lunch.

    Director of Fiscal Affairs Ken Bean said that the state Department of Education allows the district to annually participate in the program, which allows the district to provide free meals to the entire student population. In return, the district receives addition subsidies.

    This opportunity is also available to Bellefonte Area School District students participating in the hybrid educational model and Bellefonte eLearning Academy. Food Service Director Laura Frye has a plan in place for the families of those students to pick up meals.
