6th Grade-- Exploratory Spanish
6th grade will have one full marking period of a language: either Spanish or Chinese, depending on which language they chose. This course meets every day.
Some of the themes covered include:
- Pronunciation of Spanish vowels
- Punctuation and accents
- Introduction to Spanish culture
- Basic sentence and question formation
Vocabulary introduced includes:
- Basic greetings
- Sports and hobbies
- Animals
- Colors

7th Grade-- Introduction to Spanish 1
All 7th graders will choose between Spanish and Chinese. Langauge is a year-long course that alternates with Phys. Ed.
7th Grade Spanish prepares students for Spanish 1, which is taken in 8th grade.
Some of the themes covered include:
- The Spanish alphabet and letter sounds
- Where in the world Spanish is spoken
- Hispanic influence in the US
- Basic sentence structure and word order
Vocabulary introduced includes:
- Basic greetings
- Calendar
- Weather
- Pastimes

8th Grade-- Spanish 1
8th graders have the option to choose Spanish 1 as their Special (Phys. Ed. is a separate class period).
Spanish 1 is a year-long course that meets every day.
Some of the themes covered include:
- Basic grammar concepts such as noun-adjective agreement and verb conjugation
- Beginner to intermediate sentence structures and word order
- Holidays celebrated in various Spanish-speaking countries
- Language variation between Spanish-speaking countries
Vocabulary introduced includes:
- Foods and drinks
- Personality traits and appearances
- Class Schedules and school related vocabulary
- Higher numbers and time
- People and family members
