Julie Fitzgerald was elected as a School Director to the Bellefonte Area School Board in 2019. Her passion for education and the Bellefonte community are what motivate her to serve as she wants to ensure our students are well prepared for the challenges and opportunities they will face in the future. On the board of directors, Julie currently serves as the chair of the Policy Committee and has previously served as the board’s Vice President.
Julie has worked in higher education for over twenty years. Her professional interests have largely been centered on student development and success through her roles in student affairs at several different institutions including the University of Missouri, Susquehanna University, and Bucknell University. She currently serves as a Cocurricular Program Coordinator at Penn State World Campus. Her work with student engagement programs seeks to build community and belonging among students while also fostering leadership development and career readiness skills.
As a current school board member and former classroom volunteer, district employee, booster club and PTO member, Julie has been engaged and invested in the Bellefonte School District for over fifteen years. With two children that have recently graduated from Bellefonte, she has seen the K-12 student journey up close. As a result, she understands the importance for the district to provide varying educational paths and opportunities for students and enthusiastically supports a wide breadth of extracurricular activities including performing arts and athletics.
Julie holds a B.S. in Psychology from Ursinus College and an M.S. in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.
