• District celebrates National School Breakfast Week with a ‘Start your engines’ theme

foodThe week of March 3 is National School Breakfast Week, and the Bellefonte Area School District is celebrating, by promoting delicious and nutritious breakfast options at our district schools.

They include a daily featured breakfast choice with a side of fruit, 100 percent fruit juice and/or milk. Other featured menu options this week are mini cinnamon buns and pancakes, pancake and sausage on a stick, yogurt with Scooby grahams and breakfast ring.

Activities also are offered to students based on this year’s theme, “Start your engines.”

According to Food Service Director Laura Frye, the Bellefonte Area School District has just less than 30 percent of its student body eligible for the free and reduced school meal program, which means about one in three students “could use the support breakfast at school provides.”

“School breakfast programs support busy families by making it convenient for students to eat breakfast at school,” she said.

On average, about 400 Bellefonte Area students per day eat breakfast at school.
