• Bellefonte Area baseball part of Spikes Stadium Series, game against State High

spikesFor the second year, the Bellefonte Area baseball team will play at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Saturday, April 28. It’s part of the State College Spikes High School Baseball Stadium Series that features six Centre County high school baseball teams that play against each other throughout the spring.

The series includes three high school games following Penn State baseball games. Saturday’s Penn State game will be held at 2 p.m. against Northwestern. The Red Raiders will take on the Little Lions of State College Area afterward, likely with a 6 p.m. start time.

“To play on a stage like Medlar Field allows our student athletes the opportunity to see what it is like to play for a (Division I) university or minor league team,” Bellefonte Area Athletic Director Jimmy Soltis said. “It puts the game between State College and Bellefonte on a bigger stage and creates a lot of excitement for the athletes and the communities.”

According to information from the Spikes, admission is free to the high school game with purchase of a ticket to the Penn State game. Penn State tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and children. If guests only attend the high school game, tickets are $3.

The stadium series events were established last year in collaboration with school athletic departments, Penn State baseball and the State College Spikes. Soltis said that it evolved this year by getting six Centre County school districts involved and creating a series of games to "provide excitement and opportunities to showcase local rivalries."

Bald Eagle Area was scheduled to take on Penns Valley Area on April 14. Philipsburg-Osceola Area is scheduled to face St. Joe’s on May 5.
