High school student in the running for national art recognition
Bellefonte Area High School art student Jessica Sidwell is in the running for this week’s Artist of the Week for the 10th to 12th-grade age group by Artsonia, an online student art museum.
Visual Arts teacher Erin Welsh said her class has been using the art-sharing website this school year as a way for families and friends to view student artwork, and provide students with a digital portfolio.
Each week, website representatives select a group of artwork per category that are put in the running for the recognition. The winning artists will received a $50 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials and the art department of the winning student’s school will receive a $100 gift certificate.
Sidwell's piece was selected – an acrylic painting of her house, Welsh said. If she receives the most votes by April 7, Sidwell has the chance to be this week’s Artists of the Week.
To view the finalists and cast a vote, visit this website: Artsonia. Voting is limited to one vote per computer per day for each age group. Sidwell is the second Bellefonte Area student this year who was in the running for the honor. Phoebe Rowland was a semifinalist the week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3.
