• Spring musical 'Anything Goes' will be held April 12-14

playBellefonte Area High School’s spring musical is approaching and the cast and crew preparing for “Anything Goes” are in crunch time. It will be held 7 p.m. April 12-13, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. April 14 at the high school auditorium.

With a set designed by senior Brandon Hearn, this year’s program includes more than 50 cast members, and another couple dozen people working behind the scenes.

Junior Liz Nugent is this year’s stage manager – a role she’s done before in community theater, but the first time with Bellefonte. She will also be calling the play, meaning she notifies the appropriate people when to cue the lights and more.

“It’s a lot of work, but we have a good group,” she said.

The performers have also been hard at work since January preparing for their roles, and for some this will be the last time on stage acting as a Bellefonte Area student.

“I’m actually going to be really sad because every year I look forward to doing the musical because it’s so much fun and I love getting to hang out with friends and learn cool dances,” said senior Drew Nixdorf who will play Angel-Purity, who acts as a backup dancer to one of the lead characters Reno Sweeney played by Anna Yates.

Set aboard an ocean liner traveling from New York to London, “Anything Goes” tells the story of a nightclub singer Reno Sweeney, and her friend Billy Crocker who has stowed away to be near the the woman of his dreams, Hope Harcourt, who is actually engaged to another man, Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.
