• 5K to benefit community member recovering from cancer surgery

5kThe Senior Institute class has an annual mission to give back to the community.

Teacher Jessica Lloyd said the class is a long-standing tradition at Bellefonte Area High School that requires students to hold a yearlong charity project for someone in the community dealing with medical issues. This year, the class is hosting a pet-friendly 5K for Bellefonte community member Jennifer Pepperman who is recovering from cancer surgery.

The race will be held at 10 a.m. March 24 at Bellefonte Area Middle School and the run will also lead through a neighborhood adjacent to the building. Registration is at 9 a.m. and costs $20 to participate. All proceeds will benefit Pepperman.

Lloyd said the class held its first 5K last year and raised more than $2,000 for Kathy Drysdale who was battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Paired with a dinner held at Faith United Methodist Church, about $8,000 in total was raised for Drysdale.
