• Students take home awards at mock Constitutional Convention competition

conconHigh school students attended the Constitutional Convention competition Dec. 13 in Williamsport, and according to AP Government teacher and gifted instructor Ed Fitzgerald, they did “very well.”

Six of seven students received Superior individual awards. They were: Logan Cole, Brian Feldman, Eddie Fitzgerald IV, Alex Hunziker, Cam McKee and Max Theuer. Some students also took two of the highest honors: Feldman was named Best Delegate of the convention; and Feldman, Fitzgerald IV and McKee were Most Accurate portrayal of their state, which, as a team, they represented Texas.

The Constitutional Convention, sometimes known as Con Con, is a mock Constitutional Convention for students. It includes oral debates on a number of topics. Students, Fitzgerald said, were assigned to represent states. They then wrote a resolution to change part of the federal government, and debated and voted on the proposed changes.
