Mini-Thon members hold gift-wrapping event
Members of the Bellefonte Area High School mini-Thon have a plan to help the public during the holidays, while raising money for a good cause.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17 at the high school library, the organization will hold a gift-wrapping event for community members to bring in holiday gifts and have committee members wrap presents, free of charge. There will, however, be a donation jar for contributions, math teacher and mini-Thon adviser Arianna Gouzouasis said.
All proceeds will go to mini-Thon that will help benefit the Four Diamonds fund, which financial helps families of children affected by cancer.
About 10 students from mini-Thon will be helping gift-wrap. Many of those students are also involved in student council. But this is just one in a series of fundraising events the club sponsors. The group plans to hold collection drives during winter athletic events, canning initiatives at local business, a dodgeball tournament, and more, said senior Gabbie Pighetti, fundraising committee leader.
The school’s Mini-Thon event will be held March 23, with a goal to raise at least $7,000. Last year, about $5,000 was raised.
