• Superintendent, principal to participate in Polar Bear Plunge

kkpbpSome members of the Bellefonte Area School District are taking the plunge – literally. On Dec. 2, Superintendent Michelle Saylor and Marion-Walker Elementary School Principal Karen Krisch are participating in the 15th annual Polar Bear Plunge at Black Moshannon State Park that helps benefit programs through the YMCA of Centre County.

The Y’s Cool School Challenge gives students, teachers, staff and administrators an opportunity to jump in the creek and raise money to support campaigns like Open Doors and the Backpack Weekend Food Program. Open Doors provides financial assistance for eligible individuals or families who might night be able to afford access to a local YMCA; the Backpack Program provides a backpack of food for local students to take home and eat on the weekends.

Most years, Bellefonte Area goes head-to-head with the Bald Eagle Area School District in a friendly competition to see which team can raise the most money, and therefore claim bragging rights. Howard Elementary School Principal Skip Pighetti is this year’s BEA representative.
