Brett Pope was among four Bellefonte Area student athletes who signed their letters of intent Nov. 13 as a commitment to play a sport in college. Pope lives within the Bellefonte Area School District boundaries, but is educated through Connections Commonwealth Charter Academy.

Pope was a four-year member of Bellefonte Area cross-country. He committed to run at Lock Haven University siting the reason he chose the school was because it was close to home and had a good athletic program. There, he also has plans to major in criminal justice.

During his senior year, Pope, a middle- and long-distance runner, ran a personal record, and placed in the top 10 of every invitational and placed first in every Mountain League dual meet. He also placed third in the Mountain League championship, second at Bloomsburg and in districts, and 28th overall in states. He was named to the first-team Mountain League All-Star team, and was also team MVP and the 2017 Jeremy Herbstritt award winner. Pope was also undefeated in the 3,200-meter event during the 2017 season, and broke the league record.
