• School event helps bring dads, kids closer to each other

apdPrincipal Kris Vancas said he already thinks the fathers of children at Benner Elementary School are great. But a morning event the school hosts every other month allows those dads to have a little extra time with their kids.

The school has been offering the All Pro Dad program for about five years – an initiative Vancas said has a mission “to give dads the skills to be better dads.”

“I think we already have a great group, but this gives them time together they might not have with their children otherwise,” Vancas said.

About 40 dads generally attend the morning breakfast. The next event will be held 7:15 a.m. Nov. 17. Students and their fathers may purchase breakfast or bring a meal. School breakfast for adults is $1.30; students are $1.

Vancas said he hopes to expand the event by occasionally having a guest speaker. On months there are no All Pro Dad events, a similar program with mothers is held, instead.
