• Bellefonte band, Benner students to visit veterans at Centre Crest

cccdtSome students in the Bellefonte Area School District will be headed to Centre Crest, 502 E. Howard St., Bellefonte, on Nov. 9 to visit veterans.

At 1:30 p.m. some members of the Bellefonte band will hold a concert for Centre Crest residents and veterans. Band Director Jay Zimmerman said about 35 to 40 high school band students will participate.

"We haven't done this specifically before, but it's a big deal for us to get out in the community," he said.

The concert will include songs like "God Bless America," and other miscellaneous tunes for the concert that is expected to be about an hour long.

Zimmerman said the Bellefonte marching band will additionally perform at the annual Veteran's Day Ceremony on Saturday at the Centre County Courthouse. He said it's something the marching band has done for 36 years.

Principal Kris Vancas added that second-grade students from Benner Elementary School also plan to visit veterans at Centre Crest on Thursday as part of the school’s Veterans Day celebrations. Veteran family members of those students who attend Benner Elementary are also invited to visit the child’s class during the day Thursday, and eat lunch afterward for free.

Those wanting to attend must contact Vancas at kvancas@basd.net.
