BAMS 6TH GRADE HEALTH CLASS VIDEO LIST
Periodically throughout the school year, we will be viewing a variety of different videos that are applicable to what we have been learning in a particular unit. Videos can be beneficial for the students to understand specific topics from a different point of view. If you wish for your child to NOT see any of the videos, please detach the particular video in question and return it with your child’s name; as well as your name written on the back. If you have further concerns you are free to e-mail me at any time.
JUMP IN
Jump In is a Disney Channel original movie that celebrates the power of finding and pursuing ones dreams. It is shown after our Social Health Unit to portray self-confidence and the importance of teamwork. It also shows how to get along with others in different situations, and how to handle bullying situations.

FULL HOUSE
Two specific episodes of full house are shown and have a great message for the students. The first episode emphasizes fitness and the importance of eating healthy, while the second emphasizes the struggles middle school age students may face with peer pressure and alcohol.

SUPER SIZE ME
Super Size Me, An Educational Tool of Epic Portions is shown after our Nutrition Unit. The Educationally Enhanced version is perfect for students beginning in grade 6. Filmmaker, Morgan Spurlock unravels the American obesity epidemic by interviewing experts nationwide and by subjecting himself to a “McDonalds only” diet for thirty straight days.

SMOKING: TRUTH OR DARE (SCHOOL VERSION) GRADES 4-12
A graphic media compliment to classroom activities, this program demonstrates to pre-teens and teens exactly what the deadly habit of tobacco is doing to their bodies.
TEEN FILES FLIPPED: TOBACCO Grades 6-12
For 24 hours, reality is controlled and belief is suspended as two teenagers find their worlds upended and “flipped.” Two tobacco users are confronted with their addiction and shown first-hand what the consequences can be.
THE TRUTH ABOUT DRINKING (SCHOOL VERSION) Grades 4-12
Students’ comprehension of the consequences of drinking are expanded and reinforced as the program’s teen drinkers experience the potential results of alcohol use from every perspective, including: how alcohol impairs a person’s coordination, vision and reaction time; how the brain and other organs suffer lasting damage from alcohol use; how a drunk person really drives; and how drinking can lead to spending months in a rehabilitation center.

Without A Trace: Wannabe TV-14 (Season 2, Episode 15)
This powerful episode of the CBS television show Without A Trace shows the struggles of a middle school aged student as he tries to fit in with a specific peer group. His mental health is put to the test as he struggles to fit in and deal with bullying, some of which was brought on by his own actions.

Cyber-Bully (ABC FAMILY)
This video expresses the importance of educating our youth about social media and the results that can come from not being responsible for our own actions. Social Media has become a very big topic and the bullying that accompanies it is addressed throughout the entire video. This video directly links the information from our curriculum directly to the classroom. It is also a precursor to talks from The Women’s Resource Center, Youth Service Bureau and our School Resource Officer.
All videos are part of the 6th grade Health curriculum and have been approved by the BAMS principal.
