     Transition Choices: Post Secondary Education Syllabus

     

    Course Description

    This course focuses on transition planning for students with disabilities planning to attend a postsecondary education. The purpose is to help students develop the skills necessary to successfully prepare for life after high school graduation in regards to continuing their education. Students will learn self awareness and advocacy through learning about themselves, their IEPs, and their role in the development of their IEP. Students will identify fields of study they would like to pursue in regards to post secondary education and what supports they will need to access this. Students will then identify and research what careers they would be eligible for upon completion of their post secondary education course of studies.

    • Am I aware of my disability and my IEP? Can I advocate for what I need? (16.1.12A-D)
    • What is my learning style? (16.1.12A-D)
    • What are practical career goals for me and how do I reach those goals? (13.1.11.A, B, C, F, G, H)
    • What skills do I need to develop to be successful in high school and post secondary education? (1.6, 13.1, 13.3, 13.4)
    • What communication skills are needed to interact appropriately with others? (1.6, 13.2, 13.3)

     

     

    Transition Choices: Employment Syllabus 

       

    Course Description

    This course focuses on transition planning for students with disabilities planning to enter the workforce upon completion of high school. Students will learn self awareness and self advocacy, identify realistic career goals, conduct career exploration, develop a resume, self-evaluate decisions made to everyday problems, and utilize communication to obtain employment.

    • What practical living skills do I need to achieve independence? (13.1, 13.3)
    • What skills do I need to develop to be successful in high school and employment? (1.6, 13.1)

    • How do I evaluate my options and work through the steps of a problem? (13.1, 13.2, 13.3)
    • What communication skills are needed to interact appropriately with others? (1.6, 13.2, 13.3)
