BJ Wetzler
B.J. Wetzler Memorial-Bellefonte Softball Golf Tournament
B.J. Wetzler was a 1997 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. While in high school she played three sports and earned eleven varsity letters. She decided not to play basketball her senior year so she could better  prepare herself for her final softball season. Her dedication to her academic studies and her athletic abilities earned her a NCAA Division 1 softball scholarship to Campbell University in North Carolina, fulfilling one of her life's dreams.
Another one of B.J.'s dreams was to become a chef. After college she was hired at the Host Resort along route 30 in Lancaster, Pa. She approached being a chef with the same tenacity as everything in her life. With hard work and dedication she was promoted to Banquet Chef. While at the Host Resort B.J. was diagnosed with Melanoma Cancer. She would once more call upon her tenacious nature to begin the hard work to fight Melanoma. Unfortunately, after 12 months her courageous fight was lost on December 22,2006.
Her parents, John and Mary Wetzler, her family, friends and the friends of the Wetzler family decided to create an annual award in her memory. This award was to be given to the program she loved so much, Lady Raider Softball.
The B.J. Wetzler Memorial-Bellefonte Softball Scholarship is given annually at the Senior awards program to a senior softball player who completes an application and is selected by the scholarship committee. In thirteen years the B.J. Wetzler Bellefonte Scholarship has given $40,000.00 in scholarships to Bellefonte senior softball players, and awarded another $40,000.00 to the Bellefonte Softball Program.
