Mrs. Erin Cernuska
Also known to many students as Mrs. C., I am a teacher who enjoys interacting with many students, teachers, and parents! In addition to my role as Autistic and Emotional Support teacher at Marion Walker Elementary, I also visit Bellefonte High School, Middle School, and Bellefonte Elementary throughout the week to support the Autistic Support and Life Skills classes as an instructional coach. My career in teaching began in 2005 in a secondary alternative school. I was hired with BASD in 2009 and started off at the middle school for a few years before transferring to the elementary level.
My undergarduate degree is in Special Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I am certified to teach special education (K-12), elementary education (K-6), and middle school mathematics (6-8). My Master's Degree is in Special Education with an Autism Endorsement through Slippery Rock University. My true passion in teaching is behavior management and problem solving. I am also a Safety Care trainer for the district to help staff members learn a common approach to addressing student behavior. I enjoy working collaboratively with other professionals and parents to assist students with following school rules, engaging in learning activites, and developing age-appropriate social interactions. A quick summary of my teaching philosophy includes: through positive behavior supports, school can be a reinforcing place where children experience opportunities to begin to love learning and discover their passion for life.
