• Meet Mrs. Wilson

I was born in State College, PA but moved to Columbia, SC in 5th grade and stayed there through my freshman year of college.   In 1994, I returned to State College to attend Penn State University. After taking ten years off and being a stay-at-home mom (which I loved), I decided to join the work field in September of 2007 as a Kindergarten Para-Professional in a classroom in another district in Centre County.  I then began my collegiate career in education!

    • Spring 2008: Undergraduate internship in a 1st/2nd grade classroom before earning my bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State University.
    • Spring 2010:  K-6 teaching certificate through the Master’s Degree Certification Program at Penn State University.
    • May 2018:  Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis in Children's Literature at Penn State University.
    • December 2019:  Educating Individuals with Autism Cerfication and focused on taking classes that have an emphasis on dealing with Trauma and Anxiety as well as gifted and learning disabilities differentiation from Penn State.
    • August 2021:  K-8 Special Education Certificate at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
    • December 2021 (Fingers crossed) Masters in Special Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

I have taught the past 8 years teaching 2nd grade at Bellefonte Elementary School.  I am very excited to begin teaching my first year in 3rd grade this year!

I have a 25 year old son, Alex, a 23 year old son,  Blake, and a 21 year old son, Nick.  I feel that being a parent has made me a better teacher. Being a mom for many years has helped me have a better appreciation and understanding of what it is like to struggle with a child to do homework or to have my heart break when my child states that "nobody would play with him at recess."  I strive to create a classroom environment that every students feels a part of and can’t wait to return to the next day!

    Family in the Keys

My family also loves to travel. Walt Disney World is one of our favorite places to visit. However, after going to the Florida Keys snorkeling and fishing as well as visiting historic St. Augustine, we are torn about what place in Florida we love the most!!!  We also enjoy trips to my old stomping ground of Columbia, South Carolina.  Every year my parents take us on a family vacation to Charleston, South Carolina at the Isle of Palms for some boogie boarding fun.

When I am not busy with my sons' busy extracurricular schedule (that isn't very often) or doing school related work, I am usually spending time outdoors running (completing half and full marathons), competing in mud runs with my husband, volunteering to rebuild lives and home for the needy in TN, teaching 3rd grade Sunday School, or with my family camping and hiking. For down time, I am normally immersed in the world of a book or spending time with our 3 year old rescue dog Lucy and 2 year old rescue dog Linus!

I love sharing my passion and enthusiasm for reading with my students and truly believe that all children are authors who have important stories to tell.  I enjoy the enthusiasm and creativity of this age group tremendously!  I can’t wait to meet you all and dive into learning together!
