Grading Procedure
The following criteria will be used for grading:
1. Identifying basic music terminology through quizzes - 50 points
2. Play increasingly difficult pieces through daily work - 100
points
3. Performance preparation through daily work - 50 points
4. Performance evaluations - 50 points
5. Final project - 40 points
6. Playing strategies through daily work and class demonstrations -
20 points
7. Daily participation - 20 points
8. Following rules daily - 20 points
9. Perform concert assignments - 100 points
FINAL EXAM OR PROJECT WILL BE 20% OF YOUR 4TH NINE
WEEK'S GRADE
Daily Procedure - Before Rehearsal
- Arrive on time
- Retrieve your music folder
- Tune your instrument
- Rearrange chairs and music stands as needed
- Get music ready for rehearsal (Look on board for the day's
agenda)
- Sit in your assigned seat with your sharpened pencil and music
ready
- Formal warm-up begins 3 minutes after the bell rings

Daily Procedure - After Rehearsal
- I will stop two to three minutes before the bell
- This allows time for you to put your instrument and
music away
- It allows time to gather book bags and personal belongings
- It does NOT allow you time to leave early
- DO NOT CONGREGATE AROUND THE DOOR BEFORE THE DISMISSAL BELL

You can raise or lower your grade by acquiring Positive
or Negative credit:
Positive Credit
- Playing in a extra-curricular group - small ensembles,
Strolling Strings, Solo & Ensemble Concert
- Participation in PMEA District/Regional/ALL-State/All-Eastern
and Tri-County Orchestra events
- Sectionals (if needed or requested during study halls)
- After school/evening Dress rehearsal before concerts
- Concerts Participation (See
Fine
Arts Calendar for dates of concerts)
- Help the Department; Music Library, Office Work,
Recording/Lighting Assistance
- Attending or participating in other concerts in the community
(Central Pennsylvania Youth Symphony, Nittany Valley Symphony,
High School Music and Theatre events, Victorian Christmas Choir,
Middle School, Community, PSU, Eisenhower Auditorium Series)
- Attend lesson once a week

Negative Credit
- Frequently unprepared for class (no instrument or music)
- Instrument not in good working order
- Misses scheduled lessons
- Unexcused Absences
- Frequent Tardiness
- Negative influence on class (gum, excessive talking, and lack of
focus and preparation, poor attitude)
- Pencil and Music are not available for class
