It is true, I couldn't have picked a better bunch of students.
This is a display welcoming the students to the class. Each
student has an apple with their name on it.
This is our classroom post office. Each student has a mailbox of their own.
Students receive mail in the real mailbox from an anonymous person named
Fiddlesticks. The students absolutely love getting mail in the real mailbox. It is
a great way to motivate the students.
The students congregate on the carpet in front of this bulletin board for
our morning meeting. This bulletin board displays the months of the year,
a calendar pocket chart, a weather pocket chart, the days of the week,
a seasons wheel, and a place value chart. During our morning meeting, we
address every component of this bulletin board. The months of the year and days of
the week are attached with magnets. This allows the bulletin board to be interactive.
During our daily morning meeting, we also read and revise a morning letter. A morning letter may include
information related to special events, anticipated visitors, student expectations, and positive reinforcement.
The students really enjoy reading and working with the letters, words, and sentences in the morning letter.
Every day a student is called upon to reread the morning letter. This student is then allowed to take the
morning letter home at the end of the day. This is very motivating for the students.
Welcome to our classroom library! This is a very bright, inviting, comfortable
place in our room. The students really enjoy the opportunities they receive
to visit the library and read. Along with many books, the classroom library
is equipped with puppets, pillows, lamps, and a 'comfy' chair! Every
month, an author is highlighted on the shelf showing in the picture.
This is our classroom word wall. In the picture shown, there are not any words on the wall. However,
as the school year progresses, the wall will be quickly covered with high-frequency words. The students
become better readers and writers when they can read and spell these words since they appear in print so
frequently. The students are encouraged to use the word wall during daily writing activities. Chanting,
clapping, rhymes, and other games are also used to help students learn each word.
In an effort to encourage students to assume responsibility and
build classroom community, I display a job chart. Each student
in the class rotates through each job. They maintain one job for an
entire week. This helps the child feel like an important member
of the class.
