Message to
Parents:
I would like to extend
my invitation to you to explore this website and others with your child.
I have listed links to the Bellefonte Area District page and Elementary
homepage so you can view them as well.
I
have listed my contact information to the left which includes my email
address, school telephone number and home telephone number for your
convenience. I implore you to contact me if you have concerns about your
child or if you would just like to talk about upcoming events.
I will also be
posting the monthly newsletter to the left so that you can read through
with your child at any time.
Projects:
I would like to ask
for parents to volunteer their time during the school day to be involved
in classroom activities. I have sent home a copy of the open classes for
volunteering and I have linked it to this webpage. This calendar will always be
linked at the upper left-hand side of this page. You can also reach it
by clicking here.
Reading Aloud:
The students in our
class are working very hard at building their reading skills. I think
that they have done wonderfully this marking period and I hope to see
them continue to challenge themselves. One way that we have done so is
by having a regular read aloud time in our class. Students can bring in
a book that they have been practicing and read aloud. Sharing our
favorite stories is informative and a lot of fun. If your child would
like to read to the class or if you are able to join us for a read
aloud, please contact me. Check our
class schedule for read aloud times.
SCIENCE!:
First Grade students
will begin having weekly Science lessons with Alex next week. Our good
friend, Professor Alex is going to start our first Science Unit,
Pebbles, Sand and Silt. We will be reading about scientists this week
with Mr. Mudry and working on our first science experiment on Thursday,
September18th at 9:00 am. Check your volunteering calendar to see if you
can make it to lend a hand. I can't wait!
Science Update:
Here are some
pictures of us working in science!

Here we are
decorating the globes that we made!

SCIENCE FIELD TRIP
We will be taking a
field trip to the Beavertown Block Co. next Monday, November 3rd. We
will be leaving at 8:30 and returning by 11:00. If you would like to
join us on our trip, please contact me by email or phone (my contact
information is listed above). Permission slips need to be returned by
Monday morning for students to go on the trip!!!
PUMPKINS
We have been
spending some time working on pumpkins. We read the science vocabulary
book, Perfect Pumpkins and discussed the parts of a pumpkin. We put
together a pumpkin book, read a pumpkin poem and have designed our own
jack-o-lanterns to decorate the classroom for the Halloween Party this
Friday.
Today we carved a
pumpkin. We will have two before jack-o-lanterns by the end of the week.
