Expectation of Students For Science Class

1.)    All students are expected to be in their seats, completing the bell ringer and ready to learn before the ringing of the bell.  The bell does not start the class.

2.)    Students are expected to keep a notebook throughout the class.  It is recommended that students use a three ring notebook for their organization.  Students will be required to keep unit packets on the topics covered.  A unit packet cover sheet will be provided and each daily lesson will require an entry.  This will provide each student with an advantage in their study of science.

3.)    Students need to have their book, notebook, and pen/pencil in class everyday.  This will prepare the students for the day’s assignments and activities and get them ready to learn.

4.)    Students are to complete all assignments on time, accurately, and in a neat and orderly fashion.  Homework is due at the beginning of class on the announced due date.  Some assignments will be collected and some will be spot checked and reviewed.  All assignments are due in class on the assigned due date.

NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!!

5.)    It is the student’s responsibility to get make up work after an absence.  The student will have one more day to make up the work than the length of the absence.  For example, a student who misses two days of school will have three days to make up the work.

6.)    Projects, exams, and quizzes will be announced in advance.  Students will be expected to complete the assignment on the announced due date unless previously discussed with the teacher.  If a student is absent the day before a test, they will be expected to complete the test on the assigned day.  If a student is absent the day of the test, they are expected to make up the test within the allotted time frame.

7.)    All lab safety rules and policies will be followed and enforced.  This will ensure the safety of all students during labs and activities.  If the lab safety rules are not followed, the student will be dismissed from the lab, receive a ZERO, and will be dealt with according to school policy.

8.)    Students are NOT permitted to have gum, candy, food, or the like in science class.  Drinks are NOT permitted in the room.  Non-compliance will result in confiscation of material by the teacher.

9.)    NO electronic devices (ie. cell phone, MP3 player, CD player, etc.) will be permitted to be used in science class.  If a device is viewed by the teacher it will be confiscated by the teacher and returned at the end of the day (except for cell phones, in which school policy applies).  The second offense will require a parent to come and get the device after a detention.  The third offense will result in a referral and the device will be turned into the office.  Any device present during a test and/or quiz will result in a ZERO grade.

10.)  Technology will be utilized throughout the course.  Students will be expected to utilize the computer

access and other technology resources appropriately.  All students must turn in the acceptable use form

for school before they will be allowed to use a computer.  Any student found utilizing a computer in an

inappropriate manner they will lose the use of the computers in accordance with the student handbook.

11.) Students are expected to treat each other, guests, and the other members of the classroom with respect

and caring.  Harassment, taunting, and the like will not be tolerated by anyone.

12.) All school policies and guidelines will be followed in the classroom and any other facilities used by the

students throughout the course:  attendance policy, educational trip requests, dress code, electronic

       devices policy, etc.

13.) Consequences for breaking any expectation/policy will be appropriate and fair.
