Electron Configuration and Periodic Properties Project

 

Assignment: 

Identify properties of elements in order to recognize patterns of the periodic table.

 

Purpose: 

To examine the electron configuration properties of elements on the periodic table and identify trends that occurs within the periodic table.

 

Procedure:

1.) Each student will work in a group to research selected topics on electron configurations and periodic

      properties. 

2.) Groups will need to research the assigned topics.

3.) Groups need to identify the important concepts of electron configuration and periodic properties.

4.) Groups need to create an outline of the information, an outline of the presentation, and a presentation of

      the concepts for the class.

5.) Groups will present their information to the rest of the class in order to have all students learn/review the

      concepts of the chapters.

6.) Groups may create handouts for the students of the class.

7.) Groups will need to present on the following chapter sections:

            Ch 6 Sect 1-3                          Ch 7 Sect 1-2

            Ch 6 Sect 4-6                          Ch 7 Sect 3-5

            Ch 6 Sect 7-9                          Ch 7 Sect 6-7

 

 

Options:

The Group may select one of the following methods for creating your presentation:

-          Power Point, Game, Experiment, Review Problems, Video

-          You may also present an alternative to Mr. Besch for his consideration.

Below is a list of possible supplies and resources you may need.  Please see Mr. Besch for any assistance.

-          Text, Internet Availability, Periodic Table, Computers, Video Equipment, Handouts,

 

Grading:

The following grading scale will be used for this project:

                        Outline of Concepts                            =          20 pts

                        Outline of Presentation                       =          20 pts

                        Handouts, Power Point, Game, etc    =          20 pts

                        Presentation of Material                      =          60 pts

                        Participation of Members                    =          30 pts

 

                        TOTAL VALUE of Project               =          150 pts
