Red Raider Booster Club Meeting minutes Thursday November 2,2006
The meeting was called to order but Coach Besch and the following items from the agenda were discussed:
1) Letters to solicit ads for yearbook passed out, due date 12-13-06 to Diane via hand or email.
Program to be done by Diane and will be completed for the first home meet.
Bios and ads must be turned in on time to meet deadline.
New parents seemed enthusiastic about the fundraiser.
2) Volleyball fundraiser discussed and the goal of having at least 10 people there was achieved. Unofficially we made about $800.
3) Concession stand described—sheets for signing up to work and donations were passed around. With the number of gymnasts on the team each family should only have to work for one rotation of one meet.
4) End of the year banquet described-date decided March 25, 2007. Senior girls would like letterman’s jackets—will see if we can budget for it.
5) Pictures—waiting for new leos so they will be late this year. Thinking about a horse theme—carousel, barn? Something inside so they don’t freeze.
6) Warm up papers coming home for orders—write checks to PAMP.
7) Black hoodie sweatshirts will be ordered too—look out parents! Get out the checkbook!
8) State championships mentioned. New information from Coach Besch that there will be spring floors at all States for serious tumbling. T shirts, etc. are sold at States for “souvenirs” These items are optional but most girls want something. Keep the checkbook out! School pays for lodging, transportation and meals
9) Home meets:
· Checking to make sure Mr. Bierly will announce again.
· Assuming Mrs. Moore will do scorekeeping.
· New cell phone rules for PIAA which deducts points for athletes, coaches and/or judges. Coach Besch will be collecting cell phones before each meet and giving them back afterwards so there are no “mistakes”.
· No MP3 players or portable devices of any kind.
· YMCA team will assist with running and flashing.
10) Discussed having a 50/50 at home meets which requires a small games of chance license. Not sure if we want to spend the $100 on the license so we are looking into “borrowing” one.
11) Amy Glunt mentioned using facilities at Nittany to practice. They charge $240 for 2 hours. Need 10 girls minimum. Only time available is Sunday morning 9:30-11:30. The coaches will discuss whether they think this is necessary and if we can afford it.
12) Questions asked and answered about the basics—practice is always at the Middle School. This year the schedule is more structured although some practice times are changed due to other sports using the gym, holidays and vacations. Girls are expected to be at all practices. Travel on Wednesdays to away meets will begin at 2:45 so they will miss 12th period on those days. Girls are expected to dress nicely (dress pants, skirts) to travel. Normally they stop on the way home for dinner.
13) Extra curricular handbook will be handed out at practice—all parents and athletes must sign and return the paper to Coach Besch that they understand the rules. New rule this year states that GPAs will be figured each week during the season and girls must achieve an average of 73% or higher to participate that week. PIAA rules state that if you miss school you can’t practice, and if you miss a practice the day before a meet you cannot compete.
The meeting was over at about 8pm so we could dash home and watch Survivor!
Respectfully submitted,
Diane Byers
