Each spring, the Central Intermediate Unit organizes two reading competitions, one for the elementary level and one for middle school. Students are given the opportunity to compete against one another, in teams, to see who can correctly answer the most questions about the books they have read. The reading list is available in the fall of each year. The winner is determined by the cumulative scores in three rounds of competitions.

Winning teams receive first, second, third place and grand prize trophies. All participants receive ribbons and certificates for participation. All charter schools, school districts, and nonpublic schools are welcome to participate in the reading competitions.

Team meetings and practices are held in the morning before school, one day per week after school, and possibly Saturdays closer to the event date. Schedules and information will be provided in October.
