School Bus Video Surveillance The Board recognizes the need to maintain proper standards of conduct for the safety of students who ride district buses. The use of a video recording is intended to assist the administration, contractors and drivers in observing behavior and preventing violation of bus rules and regulations. The Board of School Directors determines the eligibility of pupils for bus transportation and establishes rules and disciplinary guidelines. The responsibility for the oversight of the video system and tapes lies with the administration. Use of the tapes rests with the administration. The Transportation Director shall oversee the routine procedures necessary to provide for video taping of each bus. The operational guidelines to be developed by the Superintendent will provide for the recording and use of the videos, as well as instruction for contractors and drivers. Ownership, care and maintenance of the equipment are provided for in the guidelines. Videotapes may be viewed only with the proper authorization of administrative personnel. All requests must be made through the Business Administrator. The tapes are intended for use with drivers (training and instruction) and students (training and identifying specific violations). Videotapes are not intended for general viewing by a student, employee, parent, or the public; and, the administration shall not make tapes available for general viewing purposes. Where a specific student violation may be recorded on
video, parents of that student may request to view that portion of the tape
where the violation is observed, but only if the videotape is the basis for,
or relevant to, disciplinary action. |
