At the meeting of the Bellefonte Area School Board held on Tuesday, March 21, 2006, the following action was taken:

 

District

  • Approved the minutes of the February 28, 2006, Regular Meeting

  • Approved the Board Bill Lists associated with the various funds:  General Fund, Athletics Fund, Construction Fund, Cafeteria Fund, High School Activities Fund, Middle School Activities Fund

  • Approved the Investment Report

  • 2006-2007 School Calendar

  • Procurement Card Program

  • Language Arts Adoption

 Personnel

  • Accepted the retirement/resignations of Mrs. Deborah Gaebel, Mrs. Linda Everhart, and Mrs. Louise Mason, effective the last day of the 2005-2006 school year.

  • Accepted the resignation of Mr. Benjamin E. Nelson as Assistant Girls’ Soccer Coach for the 2006-07 school year.

  • Appointed Mrs. Sharlene Yontosh as Language Arts Coordinator effective upon release from her current school district.

  • Appointed Mrs. Carol Hazel as a 7-hour/day Level C Life Skills Assistant.  Mrs. Hazel’s initial assignment is at Bellefonte Area Middle School.

  • Appointed Mrs. Lynn Pensak as a 3.0 hour/day Level C Classroom Assistant and 1/2 hour/day Cafeteria Point of Sale position.  Mrs. Pensak’s initial assignment is at Pleasant Gap Elementary School.

  •  Appointed Mrs. Marie Smitchko as a 6.0 hour/day Level C Duplication Clerk.  Mrs. Smitchko’s initial assignment is in the Central Office Copy Center.

  • Approved a Short-Term Uncompensated Leave for Mrs. Debra Vail.

  • Approved additions to the Professional Staff Substitute Listing.

  • Approved student internships.

  • Approved mentor teachers for Candice Packer and Gena Kost for the second semester.

  • Approved David Gomola as a Volunteer for Girls’ Softball and Sarah Travis as a Volunteer at Bellefonte Elementary School.

  • Approved a workshop for Fred Bruno and Nate Wert.

 Education and School Activities

  • Approved homebound instruction for a Bellefonte Area High School student.

  • Approved the following Student Activity Trip Requests:  Pleasant Gap Elementary School fourth grade to visit the State Museum of Pennsylvania and the State Capitol; Bellefonte Area High School Anatomy, Physiology, EMT, and Academic Decathlon students to visit the Franklin Science Institute in Philadelphia; Approved 9th grade students to visit Hershey Park; Approved Bellefonte Area School District fourth grade students to attend the Shrine Circus at Jaffa Temple; and Approved Bellefonte Elementary School third grade students to visit Old Bedford Village.

  • Approved the request from Centre Learning Community Charter School for a five-year renewal of its charter.

Other

  • Approved submission of PLANCON, Part H to the Department of Education for the Bellefonte Area High School Addition and Alterations Project.

  • Gave permission for the District to seek proposals for supply and delivery of school furniture for the Bellefonte Area High School and Marion-Walker Elementary School building/renovations projects.

  • Approved bids for the following:  High School Science Supplies, Middle School Science Supplies, Music Department Supplies, Transportation – Van, Electrical Supplies, Plumbing Supplies, Hardware Supplies, Health Room Supplies, Physical Education Supplies, Custodial Supplies, Athletic Training Supplies, Lumber, Central Office Supplies, Elementary and Secondary General Supplies, and Elementary, Middle School, and High School Supplies.

  • Authorized CenterPoint Engineering, Inc. to incur 12 hours of additional design time at a fee of $1,260 to redesign the gas piping distribution system based on 2 psi gas pressure for the Bellefonte Area High School Additions and Alterations Project.

  • Approved the Procurement Card Program.

  • Approved a Right-of-Way Agreement and Electric Service Agreement between Bellefonte Area School District and Allegheny Power.  This easement is related to the Marion-Walker Elementary School Building Project.

  • Approved the Builders Risk premiums for the Bellefonte Area High School Building/Renovations Project.
