Bellefonte Bulletin - 2005

 
 

At the meeting of the Bellefonte Area School Board held on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, the following action was taken: 

 

District

 

  • Approved the minutes of the May 24, 2005, Board Meeting
  • Heard reports on the following:  Administrative Evaluation Instrument, Science Curriculum, & Board Goals

 Personnel

 

  • Accepted the resignation of Bethany Hescox as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Bellefonte Area High School, effective June 10, 2005.
  • Accepted the resignation of Tara Walters as a first grade teacher at Benner Elementary School effective June 10, 2005.
  • Accepted the resignation of Karen Eppley a fifth grade teacher at Pleasant Gap Elementary School effective June 10, 2005.
  • Accepted the retirement/resignation of Karen Grine a fifth grade teacher at Marion-Walker Elementary School effective June 10, 2005.
  • Appointed Mrs. Julie Skellen as a long-term substitute teacher at Marion-Walker for the 2005-2006 school year.  Mrs. Skellen will be assigned to Ms. Correll’s first grade classroom during the first semester and Mrs. McDowell’s second grade classroom during the second semester.  Both Ms. Correll and Mrs. McDowell will be on approved sabbatical leaves for professional development during those times.
  • Appointed Mr. Jonathan Clark as a temporary professional employee effective August 29, 2005.  Mr. Clark’s initial assignment is as a Middle School Social Studies teacher replacing Mr. Leathers, who is retiring at the end of the 2004-2005 school year.
  • Appointed Ms. Jennifer Meringolo as a temporary professional employee effective August 29, 2005.  Ms. Meringolo’s initial assignment is as a High School Mathematics teacher.  Ms. Meringolo’s position is a newly created position.
  • Appointed Mr. Meldon Mitstifer as a temporary professional employee effective August 29, 2005.  Mr. Mitstifer’s initial assignment is as a High School Science teacher.  Mr. Mitstifer is replacing Mr. Johnson, who is retiring at the end of the 2004-2005 school year.
  • Approved summer school teachers, custodial/cleaning/painting personnel.
  • Approved additions to the Support and Professional Substitute listing.
  • Accepted the resignation of John Tobias and Daniel Besch as assistant varsity football coaches.
  • Approved a salary increase for Kevin Harman from B+30 to M – Step 5.
  • Approved salaries for Act 93 staff, and other administrative personnel not covered by the Act 93 Compensation Plan.
  • Approved the Job Description for the K-12 Language Arts Coordinator.

 Education and School Activities

 

  • Approved student activity trips for:  Bellefonte Area High School Marching Band to perform in the Celebrate America Parade at Kennywood Park; Bellefonte Area High School Girls’ Basketball team to attend summer basketball camp at Susquehanna University; and the Boys’ High School Basketball team to participate in the summer basketball league in Altoona.

 Finance

 

  • Approved a change order to R. L. Abatement, Inc. for additional costs to remove transite sofit material in six window bays at Marion-Walker Elementary School for an additional cost of $5,850.00
  • Adopted a resolution authorizing the issuance of its General Obligation Note, Series of 2005, in the principal amount of $583,985 for an Act 77 guaranteed energy savings program.

  • First reading of Policies 339.1, 439.1, 539.1 – Short-Term Uncompensated Leave for Administrative Employees, Professional Employees, and Support Staff Employees
