Beginning of the year bags

This is the list of things my partner and I use with our class:



The golden thread is to remind you that friendship ties our hearts and minds together.

The lifesaver is to remind you that you can come to us anytime you need help.

The chocolate hug is to remind that we all need hugs now and then.  If you need one, let us know!

The Kleenex is to remind you to always help dry someone else's tears when you see them crying.

The eraser is to remind you that we all make mistakes and that's how we learn.

The pencil will help you do your best work.

The crayons are for the colourful year we're sure to have!

A button is to remind you to "button you lips" to keep from saying any  mean things to, or about others.

The smartie is because you're going to learn so much in school this year!

A balloon is to encourage you to soar to new heights!

The gum is to remind you to "stick with it" and you can accomplish anything!!

The bandaid is to remind you to help heal hurt feelings in yourself as well as your friends around you.

The gold coin is to remind you that you are very special and valuable and there is no one else just like you!

A starburst is to remind you that you're a star in our class.

The sticker is to remind you that we all stick together in this room and always help each other!


Here's the letter we attach to the bag:


Dear ___________________,

 Welcome to your new classroom!  Here is a little surprise  bag, just for your first day in our classroom!  Inside are many items with
very special meanings.  Empty the bag with your Mom or Dad and let them read each sentence.  You can find the "object" that goes with
it.  Have fun!

 Always remember, this is your classroom, a place where you can grow, laugh, and learn...a special place for you to belong!

I don't know if this is what you are looking for- A friend gave me this idea
that she found on the Internet.  We placed each thing in a white lunch bag
with an apple
(made on the ellison machine) with their name on it and sent the bag home on
the first day of school.  We told the kids they had to open it at home with
their parents for homework.

Inside was this note and the following items:

This is your reminder bag.  If you can remember to do each thing in this bag,
you will have a great year in kindergarten! Please read this note with your
parents and discuss each thing in the bag.  Love, ____

The Hershey Hug will remind you that everyone needs a hug from time to time
(even Mrs.___).  If you need one, let me know.

The Smartie is to remind you tat everyone in our class will be learning a lot
and is getting smarter everyday.

The Life Saver is to remind you that you can go to any adult in our school if
you need someone to help you.

The Tissue will remind you to dry the tears of a friend if they need it.

The Eraser is to remind you that we ALL make mistakes.  In our class it is OK
to make mistakes.

The Starburst is to remind you that each student in our classroom is a star.

The Sticker is the most important.  It reminds us to stick together and work
as a team to achieve our goals in kindergarten this year.
