ONE OF THE FAMILY

Bellefonte Elementary custodian Lee Lyter was recently involved in a serious motor vehicle accident.  He has made remarkable improvements over the past week, but he still faces a lengthy recovery.

Mr. Lyter has worked for the District since 1989, but he’s been a member of the Bellefonte Elementary Family since 1996.  You may have seen him working days, but he also comes in to help with PTO Family Fun Nights.

The faculty and staff of Bellefonte Elementary school will be holding a benefit Spaghetti dinner on October 25.  This event will be held in the Bellefonte Elementary cafeteria from 4:00-7:30pm.  The goal is to raise money for his family during this very difficult time. The cost is $4.00 per child and $7.00 per adult.  There will also be a Silent Auction and a Children’s Auction where attendees and their children can bid on a vast assortment of items to raise money for Mr. Lyter.

PNC Bank of Bellefonte has set up the Lee Lyter Fund.  Contributions can be mailed to or dropped off at PNC Bank c/o Lee Lyter Fund.

The address for PNC Bank is:

The Strengthening Families Program

Centre County Communities That Care will be offering The Strengthening Families Program for families of 6th and 7th grade students in the Bellefonte Area School District.  This seven-week program for parents and youth will be held one evening per week beginning on October 14. The goals of the program are to help youth become responsible young adults, make good decisions to reach their goals, and build a strong, loving family that works and has fun together.  It is free of charge. Childcare is available, and dinner is provided!  Please call 814-404-9511 or e-mail centrcountyctc@yahoo.com for more information or to register.

Assemblies

Assemblies are held periodically throughout the year to enhance the curriculum, expose students to performances that they may not otherwise have had a chance to see, and to recognize student birthdays and special achievements.

On Monday, October 6, we will be seeing a special program titled “Attitude of Gratitude”.  This is an inspiring program that will teach our students to be thankful for their healthy bodies, their families, their possessions, and their country.  Updates on future assemblies will be coming.

TUTORING QUESTIONS

We’ve received telephone calls to ask if we’ll be offering free tutoring the same as we have in the past.  Unfortunately, the funding for tutoring has been cut.  We’ll be able to offer some tutoring, but only about a quarter of the hours we were able to offer last year.

In October, we will be contacting parents whose children will be offered tutoring.  We greatly appreciate all the work you do with your children to help them with learning!!!

KINDNESS PLEDGE

I pledge to myself this day,

To try to be kind in every way.

To every person, big and small,

I will help them if they fall.

When I love myself and others too,

That is the best that I can do
