20th REUNION HIGHLIGHTS
FRIDAY EVENING, AUGUST 22
Casual Get-Together
The festivities began with a casual social at the Hublersburg Hotel.
Under new ownership, (and with their new liquor license still wet
from the printer), the Hotel celebrated their grand opening by providing
the venue for the class of 1983's twenty-year get-together. Classmates
began arriving at 8 p.m. and the evening was spent socializing and
renewing old friendships. Any class member who thought the years
had made it so they could quietly enter the bar without being recognized,
were eventually tagged, thanks to a resourceful classmate who brought
old Bellefonte yearbooks!
It was close to 2 a.m. when the Hotel's owner sprang "last
call" and a few die-hard, party-hardy classmates were still
there to close the affair with a promise of seeing each other again
the following night...at the dinner dance.
SATURDAY EVENING, AUGUST 23rd
Dinner and Dancing
The Nittany Country Club in Mingoville was the venue for our Saturday
night dinner-dance. All dressed up with someplace to go...Classmates
and guests began arriving at 5:30 p.m. for cocktails. Name tags
(thanks to Laurie Novosel Capparelle) were handed out to each classmate/guest.
At 6 p.m. all class of 1983 participants congregated to the porch
steps for a professional group photo (thanks to the coordination
of Wendy Ivicic Hartsock). After lots of giggling and class chatter,
we finally acted our ages and smiled for the picture to be snapped.
A copy of the group image is posted on the Class Photos page. Following
the class photo, we entered the dinning room 1980's tunes played
by DJ, Tor Michaels. The tables were adorned with white linens decorated
with shiny confetti and red and silver streamers. Red and white
helium balloons towered over each table beside a centerpiece of
floating candles and red carnations arranged by Heather Mensch Bean
and Julie Bush Eble. Thanks girls! White lights adorned trees and
swags within the room. The whole place looked very festive! Following
an inspiring prayer by Wendy Ivicic Hartsock, over 100 classmates
and their guests sat down to a delicious dinner buffet prepared
by Harrisons.
Dinner Menu
Tossed Salad Greens and Toppings
Chicken Cordon Bleu / Baked Haddock
Roasted Red Potatoes
Herbed Rice
Rolls, Coffee, Tea, Iced Tea
Fresh Backed Cookies and Cakes
At the close of dinner, Wendy Ivicic Hartsock and Janell Brown
Burger did an excellent job of announcing the winners of the raffle
prizes and the 50/50 drawing.
A big “thank you” goes out to all classmates who so
graciously donated great items for the raffle and to all those classmates
who entered for a chance to win something. We had a variety of raffle
items ranging from handmade arrangements, Bellefonte-opoly games,
Bellefonte Beanie Babies, candles, gift certificates, bottles of
wine and Crown Royal. The raffle and “class fundraiser donation”
were such a huge success that it looks like we will have enough
money in our class account to plan a 25-year reunion!
Next, the table center pieces were awarded to the following classmates:
- First to RSVP... Eric Shay
- Traveled the Farthest... Lisa Szyller Hauser
- Youngest Child... Linda Favuzza Klein
- Oldest Child... Devini Heckman Weaver
- Most (biological) Children...Jim Burris
- Longest Married... Elizabeth Hill Hale
- Newlyweds... Mark Auman
25-Year Reunion Discussion
After the raffle announcements and awards were given, a brief discussion
was begun to ascertain interest for a 25th reunion -- to be held
some time in the year 2008. Ideas such as having a pig roast and/or
family picnic for the 25th event were suggested. Nothing definite
was decided, however it was unanimous that all present wanted to
get together again in 5 years to celebrate our 25th class reunion
in some fashion! Be sure to keep abreast of the planning for our
25th year event by periodically checking out our class Web site
and by also registering your name, for free (basic membership),
on Classmates.com at http://www.classmates.com/help/membership.tf
Following a presentation of our class slides (This was the slide
presentation that was created by Louis Siewart for our all-night
party back in 1983), the girls took off their high-heels and went
out on the dance floor to dance to old 1980's tunes spinned by DJ,
Tor Micheals. Hey, even after 20 years the guys of 1983 still don't
dance! Other classmates and guests went out on the patio to take
in the fresh night air and to try to catch a glimpse of Mars in
the sky. Still other classmates congregated around the tables to
catch up with each other on families, babies, marriages, jobs, and
other news.
It was after 11:00 p.m. when classmates gave one last hug to one
another and exchanged email addresses in hopes of keeping in touch.
20-Year Reunion – A Success!
Two special nights in August brought us together to reminisce about
old times and to talk with old friends. All in all...what a wonderful,
and fun, time everyone had. Special thanks go out to the 20-year
reunion planning committee (you know who you are) for putting together
a successful event for us all to enjoy! Perhaps we'll have a bonfire
at the 25th and burn those old class slides once and for all!!!
Be sure to check out the "Class Photos" link for images
of the 20-year class reunion events.
Please send class reunion pictures to the Class of 1983 Webmaster
(sls3@psu.edu) for posting.
Didn’t get an invitation to the Class Reunion?
The reunion committee apologizes to those of you who may not have
gotten a formal invitation to the 20-year reunion. Painstaking effort
was made to locate the current address of every classmate, however,
there were some addresses that were left unknown. We do not want
to leave you out! So please send your mailing address to the Class
of 1983 Webmaster (sls3@psu.edu) so that we may update our class
records.
