The Bellefonte Area School District provides a Student Assistance Program for students having difficulty in school.   The team has been trained to identify and refer any student who may be experiencing difficulty in a variety of areas.  The problem may be academic, social or behavioral, something that may be hindering a student from success in school.  Teachers, guidance counselors, administrators, other students and sometimes the student themselves can make a referral to the SAP team.

The Student Assistance Program was designed to connect students experiencing substance abuse problems, suicide issues or other mental health concerns with appropriate information and counseling services.  The task of the Student Assistance Team is to monitor students experiencing difficulty in school.  The team gathers data for the assessment of students' needs for help and counseling.

Referrals to the Student Assistance Team may be made by school personnel, parents and/or students.  Students who violate the District's Drug and Alcohol Policy will automatically be referred to the Student Assistance Team.  Recommendations from the Student Assistance Team regarding drug and alcohol violations will be binding.

Students referred to the program may receive professional counseling at appropriate drug and alcohol and/or mental health agencies that serve the Bellefonte Area School District.  All information concerning students who are referred to the program will remain CONFIDENTIAL.
